A. Expertise domains and significant results
1. In the general framework of MATERIALS SCIENCE
After 20 years of laboratory works supervising at the discipline of Materials Study , which involved direct working with optical microscope (specimen preparation, micrographs recording and results discussing) as well as after 12 years of teaching the lecture, a rich expertise has been accumulated being materialized by publishing, at regional level, of a laboratory woks guide (as coauthor) and at national level of a number of 5 lectures, monographs and selection of tests and applications. Didactical experience also includes teaching the following lectures: Heat and thermochemical treatments , Amorphous materials and Superalloys . The research activity includes improvement of automatic lathes (patent); analyzing ultrasonics effects on heat treated parts (1 paper published in Iasi Polytechnic Bulletin); plastic deformation process (2 published papers in Romanian journal Metalurgia, 2 papers published in the ISI quoted Spanish journal Revista de Metalugia de Madrid and 1 paper published in the ISI quoted international publication Journal of Optoelectronics and Advanced Materials); analyzing the structure of thermochemically treated steels (1 paper published in Iasi Polytechnic Bulletin) and the study the changes produced in low alloy steel pipes as an effect of long lasting exposures to elevated temperatures and pressures, in power stations, (2 papers published in the Romanian journal Metallurgy and New Materials Research and 1 paper published in the ISI quoted Spanish journal Revista de Metalugia de Madrid). The expertise gained in the field of structural analysis, by means of optical microscopy, has caused the inclusion in the research teams of 11 projects.
2. In the framework of research-development of INTELLIGENT MATERIALS
The contributions to knowledge development/ deepening and to the research of intelligent materials, and mainly shape memory alloys, were concretized by:
a) publishing the first three Romanian papers regarding tensile behavior of a Cu-Al-Ni SMA, Metalurgia 46(9) and (10) 1994:
b) defending the PhD thesis Technology and equipment for obtainment of some shape memory alloys , in 1997;
c) implementing seven experimental devices/ technologies, developed during PhD preparation and during the previous type-A grants financed by CNCSIS, into the research infrastructure of Advanced Materials laboratory;
d) introducing new disciplines in the curricula of some faculties from the Technical University from Iasi: (i) Theoretical, technological and applicative bases of shape memory alloys (at the Technical University College); (ii) Shape memory materials and other special materials (Intelligent materials) (at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) (iii) Intelligent materials and (iv) Nonmetallic shape memory materials (at the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering);
e) publishing the results of some research of international present interest, related to:
The role of preferred crystallization of alpha phase on the shape memory behavior, in the international ISI quoted journals, Journal of alloys and compounds and Materials science and technology , paper published as first author
Influence of austenitization on alpha phase morphology, in the international ISI quoted journal Materials science and engineering A , paper published as single author
f) publishing 6 books under national publishing houses (among which 1 as single and 5 as first author) and of a total number of 68 papers (53 as single or first author) and 1 patent, all about shape memory alloys
h) participating, as a director, to 4 research contracts (in last 4 years) and as a member of the research team to 11 contracts (6 in the last 5 years)
i) being invited, as a speaker, to the European Symposium of Martensitic Transformation, ESOMAT 2006 , 10-15th September 2006, Bochum, Germany, for oral presentation On the influence of austenitization on the morphology of a -phase in tempered Cu-Zn-Al shape memory alloys (please see attached copy of the scientific program of the symposium)
j) being included, as a visiting scholar at the Ruhr University Bochum, Germany and as a guest scientist at the National Institute for Materials Science from Tsukuba , Japan
k) CNCSIS expert, evaluator for new projects and CEEX expert, evaluator for projects in Module 1
